What best describes you?

Tap one and we'll put the three things that matter most for you at the top.

England: nurses and nursing associates register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). There is no separate personal register for care workers, so their accountability runs through their employer's Care Quality Commission (CQC) registration.

Where your registration can take you

A PIN is worth more than one job. These are the routes people actually take, and the ones nobody mentions on the ward.

Keep learning

Continuing professional development

Revalidation asks for 35 hours of CPD across three years. Most of what you need is free.

The essentials

Registration & must-dos

The things that keep you working, checked against the official sources.

NMC revalidation — every three years: 450 practice hours, 35 hours of continuing professional development (20 participatory), five pieces of practice-related feedback, five written reflective accounts, a reflective discussion, health and character, indemnity, and a confirmation.
The Code — the NMC's four themes: prioritise people, practise effectively, preserve safety, promote professionalism and trust. Every reflective account is written against one of them.
Care Certificate — now 16 standards, after learning disability and autism were added in 2025. The CQC-expected baseline for everyone new to care, and the thing a nursing associate route builds on.
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) — clinical and care roles need an Enhanced check with a barred-list check. The Update Service costs £16 a year and makes it portable between employers.
Your nation matters — Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland require personal registration for social care workers (Scottish Social Services Council, Social Care Wales, Northern Ireland Social Care Council). England does not.
